Bighorn Sheep, white water and magnificent foothills characterize this area of Kananaskis Country.

The Sheep River Valley is a contrast of commanding peaks and pastoral meadows, of deep gorges and sweeping valleys. When you visit, stop at the Sheep River Wildlife Sanctuary and look for Bighorn Sheep and Elk. The valley comes by its name honestly. The Native people that visited here also called it The Sheep and a drive through the wildlife sanctuary here will show you why. It's a rare day when you won't see bighorn sheep grazing in the meadows, on the surrounding slopes, or scrambling nimble-footed on the rocky outcrops.
You will discover several great campgrounds in this area of Kananaskis Country with numerous hiking and mountain biking trails nearby.
The area offers several equestrian campgrounds for those who enjoy exploring on horseback.
